Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and anchor and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up living in New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature at The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell joined KYW Radio and TV as an Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. In 1976 she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). Then she joined NBC News Washington two years after that as a general reporter. In 1980, she began covering the White House. 1988 became the main congressional reporter. Mitchell was named as the head White House correspondent by NBC News in 1992. Mitchell was a panelist for the TV show Meet the Press and also was the host for the program. Mitchell was a panelist in the 1988 presidential debates with George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell got married to Alan Greenspan the former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 to recognize her efforts in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering for the White House in 1981-1988, in both the Reagan presidency. She has covered several notable stories over the years, including the tax reforms, budget reforms, and The Iran Contra saga. She traveled extensively with Reagan as well as Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
